Antigal Winery & Estates: New World Winery of The Year 2023

May 30, 2024

Antigal Uno Malbec

Malbec, the grape that put the Argentine wine industry on the map, is one of my favorites, and I was so thrilled to be able to try a bottle from the fabulous Antigal Winery & Estates of the Uco Valley in Argentina.

Antigal Uno Malbec 2020: a limited-edition single vineyard wine that reflects the essence of the Antigal and the terroir of Mendoza. This wine also received 90 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and was rated a “Best Buy”.

My Review of Antigal Uno Malbec 2020

A beautiful example of how this Southwestern French grape variety shines when grown in the foothills on the Andes. A deep ruby, it first greets you with aromas of wild raspberries and blackberries, rich dark plum, violet, and soft vanilla, chocolate, tobacco and toast from the 10 months maturation in French and American oak. On the palate, the ripe, juicy fruit flavors are balanced by the fresh acidity of high altitude grapes, paired with rich, well integrated tannins smooth, supple, and long finish. At around $15, this wine is a great value and would pair well with a grilled steak with chimichurri sauce this summer!

New World Winery of the Year 2023

Antigal Winery & Estates was named New World Winery of the Year 2023, an award given to the most outstanding winery located outside the U.S. and Europe. This prestigious recognition from a leading industry authority marks a significant milestone for the family-owned winery.

At the 24th Wine Star Awards honoring global wine innovators, Antigal stood out as the sole nominee in the coveted Best New World Winery category. Jessica Vargas, a Wine Enthusiast journalist, noted Antigal’s role in elevating the Uco Valley with its signature Malbec and diverse wines. The fierce competition in this category included top wineries from New Zealand, South Africa and Chile.
